Valentine's Day Math Challenge

Ryder has asked his mother to give him some money to buy Valentine's Day cards for his class party. His mother gives him $6.00 to buy the cards. When Ryder visits the store, he finds that there are 6 cards in each box. One box costs $1.40. Ryder has 20 children in his class, but he doesn't need a card for himself. He does want to give Ms. Earl and Mrs. O'Neil a valentine. (Don't worry about the tax)

a. How many boxes does Ryder need to buy to have 21 cards in all?

b. How much money will Ryder spend if he gets enough cards for the class?

c. Will Ryder have enough money?  How much money does he have left over, or how much more money does he need?

Show your solution using words and numbers. Remember SEE, PLAN, DO, ANSWER. Your solution is due on Monday.
